How does police track a cell phone?

If you're a parent, then you've probably had to track down your child at some point. Whether it's to return a lost phone, or because they're late to pick up the kids from school. Finding your phone number location is easier than you might think! In this article we'll take a look at how to find your cellphone number location within minutes, using just about any cell phone and without any special software. With that said, let's get started!

1. How to find your location using Google maps

If you want to get directions to a specific location in Google Maps, do the following: 1) Open the Google Maps app and type in the name or address of the place you want to go. 2) Tap the name of the place you want to go to. 3) Tap the Directions icon.

This works with any internet-enabled cell phone, including the most recent models of the iPhone, Samsung, and LG iPhones that use the default number entry methods.

To find your cell phone number by default in Google Maps think of any major city. Try out different avenues, or areas where you’d most likely be driving. A good starting place would be the street your car is on. If you ever get lost, this will get you closer to the right location on the map. With any luck, you should be able to reach your phone without any problems! However, this can only be a good bet if you have a recent, high-capacity cell phone. A thing to remember though is that cell phones will either upload to their own location or as close as possible to your default location. If you are far away, your phone will try to upload to a pre-determined location. In this case, you won’t be able to reach the location that easily. It may take some trial and error to locate your default cell, but it’s possible!

We’ll start with going to our home address from the search bar, followed by navigating to pre-determined GPS coordinates for the last known location of our cell. First, let’s go to our last known GPS location using Microsoft Maps, then we’ll use Google Maps straight away. Navigate to the address you would like to find, such as 7739 Hayvenhurst Dr, Dallas, TX 75234. From the address bar, type in 7739, then press enter.

You should get a box appearing below the address. Type in the last known cell phone number listed underneath it, then press enter. You’ll get a map with the location listed on it.

2. Find someone's phone number location using their Google Maps profile picture

Step 1: Go to Google Maps and search for the person you want to find the location of. Step 2: Click on the ‘Images’ tab. Step 3: Click on the ‘Upload an Image’ button. Step 4: Use the ‘Upload Image’ option to upload an image of the person you want to find the location of.Hint: As the name of this technique suggests you can get a cellphone number location by simply scanning the barcode of the device that you want to find.

Once you have an image of the person you’re looking for, it’s a matter of a few easy adjustments that we’ll go over.

For the purpose of this article, we’ll be using the image of one of my kids below. Hopefully, you can see how we’ve given customization of the person we want to find the location of (see image 1.1).

Step 1: Go to Settings on your phone and scroll down to the Bluetooth & Cellular section. Step 2: Turn on location accuracy.

See image 1.2 below for a visual of this setting.

Step 3: Press and hold any power button on your phone until a notification appears. With that notification, press and hold the volume up button until a menu appears. Navigate to Security & location.

Step 4: Navigate to Cellular and tap on the name of the person you want to find the device location for. Confirm with the button that says ‘Location’ (see image 1.3).

Step 5: Before you scroll to the bottom of the screen, allow the location completion to complete. The phone will then prompt for the coordinates and you’ll see a popup window.

Step 6: Adjust the zoom level as necessary (in this example, I’ve increased the zoom from 3x to 5x). Once the coordinates are entered, click “Done” and the phone will show the following information:

Hint: If you need to scroll down past the barcode scanner, you can use the button in the upper right-hand corner that says ‘Show more’.

3. Track a cell phone number without installing software on the device or requesting a trace from the phone company

Depending on the type of tracking software you’re using, it may be able to track a cell phone without installing any software onto the device itself, or it may require you to install a small piece of software onto the phone to be able to do so. Some tracking software can even help you to track a cell phone number without having to install any software at all. When you scan a barcode-like the barcode is shown above (C64D-0057) using an iPhone, you’ll see a little barcode icon on top of it. Pressing on this barcode will bring up a little window.

If you click on the “View Source” button, the source code for this barcode can be found on GitHub. If you navigate to this location you can see that there is a column for cell phone numbers. This can be used in tracking as well! All you need is to add a row of numbers to your spreadsheet containing the partial cell reference of the barcode, just like you would with any other data. Like so:

This means we can use the same source code to identify where a cell exists within a data set.

Simply add this same information to a new column, and call the new column ‘Number of Cents’. Because it’s a new column, it doesn’t receive any data by default. We have to manually populate the new Number of Cents column with the information of our choice. Here’s how I did it in my own data:

With that being said, the data isn’t 100% perfect, because I was specifically looking for tracking of people rather than phones themselves. However, it shows the general idea of where each of my cells fits within the data.

To do this we’ll need to use SQL because we’ll be manipulating data. Fortunately for us, OpenStreetMap has compiled a library of shortcode functions to make this process easier.

4. View cell phone locations in real-time with Google Maps: See where everyone is at any given moment!

This is a great way to keep track of your employees or your family members. You can see where they are at any given moment and also see where they’ve been. You can also see where they are on their way to/from. This is very useful for parents because it allows you to see where your kids are at any given moment. For example, say you have ten employees. If you Google their names, you could see their locations at any given time.

You could also create alerts for the employees as well so you know when they get home late from work (which could be any time on the weekend or not), or if they don’t pick up their kids at school (which could be at any time on any day of the week).

Your phone is probably well within your physical reach regardless of what door it is that you’re sitting in front of. Likewise, your smartphone can probably be found relatively easily as some models have a built-in location strength meter. Effectively this makes them helpful as a finder, too.

The location of your phone will persist over time as long as your device is connected to Wi-FI. When your device goes into airplane mode, it loses this location, so make sure to regularly turn location services back on.

The quick way to do this is with the help of NFC (Near Field Communication), which is a simple way to use your smartphone as a Bluetooth receiver. On newer Android devices this feature is called “Find My Device.”

A quick way to turn off this feature is by going into Settings > Security > Bluetooth. Once this is done, be sure to turn on Find My Device back! The preferred location for the device is constantly changing, based on your current location.

Remember that if the phone is turned off, then meeting members (or family members) who scan the QR code displayed on your phone will not be able to locate or contact you.

Conclusion: With so many people having smartphones nowadays, it's easy to see why you might want to know where they are and what they're doing.

You're probably wondering why your smartphone is so important. After all, it's just a device that allows you to make and receive calls, texts, and emails. It's also a device that allows you to access the internet and play games. But chances are, you're probably as addicted to your smartphone as you are to the internet.

Within minutes, you can find your smartphone’s IMEI ( International Mobile Station Equipment Identifier) by using a device that can scan a bar code. This method is not 100% accurate but can be enough to track down your smartphone’s location. There are a few different ways you can find your phone’s IMEI, such as your phone’s Bluetooth settings or grabbing your phone off the charger. But the (relatively) easy way is to make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on. (Check your phone’s settings if you’ve never turned them on.) And you can do this by either:

At this point, you might have realized there’s one VERY specific location you need your phone to hit. Enter “satellite location“.

Satellite locations are a specialized type of cell site that can identify your phone as it travels over many different cell towers throughout the country. These cell towers are most often found in rural areas, though urban settings can also produce a local cell site. Once a cell site has been located, your phone will start sending coordinates to you once it receives the signal.

A quick demo of using satellite location on my Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus follows below.

To find a satellite location, just open the Google Maps app on your phone and enter the full street name of a town or city. That’s it! Just make sure all of the S10 Plus numbers and punctuation are entered correctly. You should see a box with the satellite location, circled in yellow. Once you’ve got the location, tap “Check it” to display a pop-up confirming the location.

While a satellite location is great for tracking down your phone’s exact location, this method is relatively vulnerable to attack.
